A few words from a games writer who happens to be trans, on National Coming Out Day.
If you’re ever in a position to make a young person who is struggling with the pain of gender dysphoria feel some hope for his or her future, please do so. If you’re ever in a position to make the place where you work more inclusive toward transgender people, or to support financial assistance for transgender employees, please do so. We have a long way to go, but we are making progress, and every step on this journey counts.
I know it’s really difficult for straight white dudes to wrap their heads around issues of gay and lesbian rights, much less something as complicated as transgender issues. But please. Try. Be a decent human being.
Carolyn is incredibly brave to be so forthright with her experience as a transgendered woman in a field populated predominantly with cisgendered dudes who aren’t necessarily known for their nuanced understanding of what that means. And while I’m sure it’s not even a question for the people in charge at Gamespot, I appreciate that they’re supportive of her as well.
